Summer

So - this is the shortest song I've ever written. And as of right now - i feel some of my best lyrics ever. It's hard to describe exactly what it's about. The core of this song is peace and love. I had this amazing connection to summer and warm summer nights with a slight breeze are my absolute favorite. It feels like the epitome of who I am. I am also struck with how memories are attached to certain things and the way I have so many associated with summer. To be honest mostly with relationships. It seems so easy to fall in love in summer. And some of those relationships didn't turn out so well - so there is some bitter mixed in there. But then there is ryan - whom I also fell in love with during the summer and am still in love with. For some reason summer always seems to make me feel that more and so the lyrics are some what of this great peace and love and growth I have found in my relationship with ryan. It's a lot of things. But here they are.

Summer Memoirs

Star light,
Shining bright
Cascading peace
on this summer night.

Warm summer winds
refresh smiles and pain
Some things change
Some are always the same

Seasons come and seasons go,
We are all subject to the eternal flow.
So listen to the crickets sing
When all that exists is you and me

Star light,
Shining bright
Cascading Peace
on this summer night.

The Pull of the River

This is rough it may be edited and added too. It is meant to be the first in two or more short stories. If I actually will write the other ones I dunno. This was just a fun exercise in imagination. I didn't look over it for typos - so excuse those.

Giomanach treked through the undergrowth enjoying the crunch of new fallen leaves and the gentle glow of sunrise. Lancelot was not such an early riser. He curled around Giomanach's neck, his ringed tail falling down past his waist. Lancelot was a ring tailed lemur. He had claimed Gio during a trip to one of the bigger southern islands. He was North now, treking through a lush forest at the beginning of autumn. Giomanach was a ranger of 6'3. Broad shouldered and athletic from his occupation he had grey-green eyes like waves crashing through them. His hair was the color of chocolate and fell just above his eyes. Gio was like his wave-eyes. Restless - he always needed to move. He was not in search of anything particular at the moment just enjoying being in the trees.

Listening, Gio heard the soft flow of water and walked toward it. He found a river about a half mile to his west. He sat down to splash water on his face, Lancelot objected this and jumped down to shake his fur off in a disgusted manner. Lancelot's ears suddenly perked forward. His fur was standing on end and his long tail flat to the ground. Lemurs tended to hold their tails high so they could be found easily. This behavior worried Gio, it was Lance's verson of hiding. Although that lemur would never hide from anything. Stubborn little guy. Giomanach sensed nothing unusual but strung his bow just in case. As he sat, wary, the current from the river seemed to pick up. Soon the waves were roaring and Gio was on his feet. In front of him the waves seemed to reach impossible heights. Throwing water everywhere. An unsettling thing on a windless day. When it was about five and a half feet high is seems to form shapes. With every new wave that crashed into this giant form the shapes sharpened. It was roughly a human shape. Female. Then before him stood a vision from his wildest dreams. A woman stood, all of water. With a gown whose ends flowed into the river itself and waves for hair cascading down her back. Her sea blue flashing eyes were captivating and unnatural. Gio was stunned. He did only what instinct told him. put an arrow to his bow string and drew. The water thing laughed. The sound a spring showering dripping into a calm lake. "What do you think that little thing will do to water my dear?" her voice was beautiful and must be the essense of the river when calm. "Courage young Hunter, for I mean to ask for aide, not harm."

"What manner of creature are you?" Demanded Hunter, slow to let his guard down.

"Most would call me a water sprite. Although this term is not correct. I was once like you, a human. I was tricked into this form which is a prison for me by men who neither knew or cared for who I was or what my life might have been. My name is Caille. Veil. For I was known to be pure of spirit. I ask your help - to free me from my watery prison."

"What form is the help?"

"My dear Giomanach, you distrust me still. You need only to fill your flask with water from my river. Bring it to Druid named Malaki. He will know what to do. Just take a flask of water, this is all I ask. He is not far. If you travel 10 miles east through this very forest you will find a groove of oak trees you will find him there."

"This seems a small act to right a great wrong. I must go to the city beyond these trees but I see no reason to not see this Druid man on my return trip." Gio pulled out a spare flask and filled it with water from the river.

Cialle laughed delightedly. "Thank you. You truly are my savior. Take a drink from my waters, the water is clean and with my blessing will give you extra strength for the rest of your journey."

Gio bent down to cup the water in his hands. There was an angry hiss. Lancelot - forgotten until now leaped at Gio's hands spilling the water. "Lance! Now is not a play time. Stop that. I will have a drink to restore my strength and we will be off." picking up the lemur and holding him fondly he continued " This has been a long journey for us both little guy, just calm down." Giomanach set the lemur on his should. Lance wrapped his long tail around Gio's neck and let it hang, but was shaking as if scared or angry. Gio leaned down to drink the water. It was cool and clean. He felt the extra energy surge through him and smiled. "Thank you Lady Cialle, the strength was much needed. I wish you luck in your endeavor to escape." With that Cialle sank into her river and it was again still.

***********************************************************************

Two days later Giomanach sat eating midday with an old friend. They were in a large estate that his friend owned enjoying the colors of autumn by taking their meal out in the courtyard. Kivanc was slender and ill kept. A scholar to the core he did not much notice things like how he dressed or how his hair looked. Giomanach was regailing him with stories of his travelling. "You know Kivanc, I had the most bizarre occurrence just a couple days ago in the forest. A water sprite popped right out of the river and asked for help." Kivanc looked troubled.

"A Water Sprite? hmm. How odd. What happened.?" As Giomanach told his story Kivanc looked grave. As he concluded telling him about how the water gave him strength Kinvach replied sadly "Gio, my good friend. You know not what you have done."

Giomanach was rather offended. Had he not done what any self respecting man would do, help a lady in trouble? "I have done my duty. What problem do you find with that Kivanc."

"Cialle means veil. But she was not named as such for her purity as she told you. But for her ability to veil her intentions and her true nature. Cialle was a Druid. She was rebellious and believed it to be the time for Druids to be in power. She enchanted and seduced the princeling. Even the Druids where against this form of falsery. Her only alley was her dark mentor Malaki. When the king heard of this plot he sentenced her to a watery prison. It seems Malaki has found a way to free her."

Giomanach sat, troubled. He felt with all his being that this was a lie. Things just didn't make sense. Kivanc was his oldest friend and a renowned scholar. But what he said just didn't feel right. "Well, there is time to consider this," he thought out loud. "I still have the flask and have not yet delivered it."

Kivanc did not look comforted. "I am afraid it is worse than that old friend. By drinking of her essence you have bound yourself to her. You will be unable to resist her will until the tie is broken."

Giomanach was stunned. He had been tricked and decieved that was certain. He felt angry, confused, and even shamed at allowing this to happen to him.

"We will look for a way to unbind you. Most likely we will need a druid to do the actual unbinding as neither of us has the power. That should not be a problem. The majority of druids would be only to willing to cut off her escape plan."

"This seems the only way. Let's look for a way to unbind me." At these words Giomanach screamed. He fell to the floor gasping. Being pounded to the ground by invisible rapids. Slowly the pressure abated and he sat up gasping.

It seemed Caille would not let her prize go so easily.

Maria: The Goldenlake Guard

This is a little attempt at fan fiction. I'm not much of a writer so don't attack me, i'm just sorta imagining. It's a fanfic of The Beka Cooper series by Tamora Pierce. It's about Maria a brand new puppy in the Lower City at Jane Street Kennel.

Maria walked anxiously to her very first watch. Well, the training before watch anyway. She had just finished her training and was about to step onto the streets of the lower city. Maria of Goldenlake was not your typical Dog canidate. She was noble for one. Her mother made quiet a fuss the first time Maria said she wanted to be a dog. Sir Nickilos was on her side. That was Maria's father for you. With no sons to teach the fighting arts he indulged in Maria. Using talks of Lady Knights and even bring in her father's old friend Lord Gershom who was the Lord Provost to tell her mother all about the famous Beka Cooper she finally got her wish.

She now wondered what she was thinking? Maria was a slight girl, scare 5'6 and only about 120 lbs. She kept her long glossy black hair, the envy of other maidens, in a tight knot at the back of her neck, to make it less of a target in a fight. She wore her simple black dog uniform with the puppy trim. Training wouldn't be so bad, she'd have the other puppies that already knew her. However, training was with Goodwin. Goodwin hated her! She didn't know why, but she always got the hardest blows and the most critism from Goodwin. She was worried about the Dogs she'd be assigned. She'd heard of puppies getting killed because their dogs didn't know what was going on. No, don't think about that. she thought. She focused on the soft thud, thud thd, thud of Rufian's feet. Rufian was her dog. Not a scent hound like Beka's Achoo, nor a constellation like Beka's Pounce, just, a dog. He was a small thing. A shih tzu. WIth brown and while fur and floppy ears. His tail curled up like a pigs, only with a lot more fur. The had been together since he was a pup. She didn't know why he followed her everywhere, but if she left him at home, she was sure to find her favorite dress or curtains or other nice thing ripped apart or soiled. Her teachers took no notice because he never got in the way and he trotted steadily at her heel. It was comforting at least.

Training went as it always did. However, with the first and second year dogs she had to teach them, the lesson she taught her fellow puppies awhile ago. Just becase Maria was small and maidenly did NOT mean she was not fierce. She hated being stereotyped like that. But what could she do? She only hoped whatever dogs she was assigned did not keep her from action because of this. Training helped to work out her nerves at being assigned a dog pair. At least she thought. As she walked into the Kennel for assignments and muster her heart pounded. Her mouth went dry. Oh why hadn't she put on pretty dresses and went husband chasing like her sisters? Maria shuddered, no, this was definately better. She looked around at the dogs she had heard of. Ersken and Birch had helped with the colemongering ring. Jewel and Yoav were good senior partners too, both of those would be great. She purposly avioded looking at Cooper and Tunstall. Tunstall had been Goodwins partner before she took Watch Sergent. Cooper was their puppy and sometimes partner whenever she lost another partner in her first year as a Dog. They were the best. Cooper was a legend, she bagged her first rat, no rats, a whole uber gang of them, when she was 8! No, being partnered with a legend was too much.

Maria had terrible luck. Her heart raced."Maria" Goodwin barked. Maria froze, scared stiff and forgetting what she was supposed to do. "Well stand up girl! You'll be with. . ." she looked down at her list and gave a smile with something else it it, irony? Maria guessed. "Cooper and Tunstall." She looked over Tunstall had that same smile and shook his head lightly. Cooper looked annoyed.

She walked over to them. "We are becoming a regular zoo!" Tunstall laughed. "A cat, a scent hound, and a runt!" Maria looked down. Pounce came over and sniffed Rufian. Nothing special about this one. Maria jumped. She looked up to see if anyone else had herd the cat talk. Tunstall laughed again "You'll get used to it." Cooper found her voice. "Now listen your ladyship, I want no maidenly nonesense. Dog work is serious and you could get seriously hurt." Maria's cheeks blazed red with anger but knowing her place she simply replied "Yes Guardswoman Cooper" Tunstall laughed again. Maria wasn't sure if she liked it. "Now Beka, give the girl a chance, Clairy says she good enough in training, I think she's getting back at you for being our pup, you know how she sooo wanted to have a puppy." Maria was thinking so many things. First, Goodwin said she was good in training? THis was confusing but touching still. Second, Beka was blushing with what? Anger, shame? "Alright, let's see what she can do."

They walked out into the cool cloudy night. It was night market tonight. Rufian stayed at her side, as far away from Pounce and Achoo as possible, He didn't like other animals. Most of the night was pretty standard. They showed her how to catch a pickpocket without a whole lot of fuss. However, Maria had terrible luck. She was glancing down an ally where she had seen kids playing before. She now saw a tall cove with knife scars on his hands and dark eyes come out of the shadows, he put his hand over a little girl and scooped her up. She wailed and kicked and would have screamed if the hand had not been there. A child stealer. She timidly pointed it out to tunstall. The marched toward the cove, Maria unseen followed behind. It was beauty to watch them work. Of course until the cove came running straight past her. In an instinctive move she stuck out her foot and tripped him. She was stunned, was she supposed to do anything or just watch Cooper and Tunstall? He started to get up but the Dogs did nothing. She looked back confused. Now it was Cooper's turn to wear the ironic smile.
She looked at Maria "Puppy, Fetch."

I may write more to this I"m not sure. I really like Maria's character, but we'll see what kind of time I ahve on my hands. Keep in mind, that I just pulled this out of my head, a true first draft.

What's this?

Yes I already have one blog on here but my cousin inspired me to create a new one about something totally different. Occasionally when I miraculously find free time I write a short story - usually fan fic. I'm not really trying to get published or anything, just something I do so I thought I'd share. The first two or three are old ones I have on a different site, after that though, they will probably be new.
